Our New Evolutionary Tree for Birds!

When our society finches had babies, and a recent issue of the journal Science highlighted some dramatic research on bird evolution and the adaptive radiation of birds soon after the extinction event 66 million years ago, we wanted to create a graphic that focused on these recent discoveries. Our daughter Arden took the lead on this project , and some of the steps are shown below, as well as a video of her explaining the print.

We created an insert that explains the basics of evolution, how are graphic works, and also some of the interesting evolution of “bird” traits in the evolutionary tree of one group of dinosaurs.
